E-PANELS: Fostering Citizens’ Participation and Volunteering in a Wider Europe (2009-2010)

1. April 2009.

Supported by the European Union – Europe for Citizens Programme

Project “E-panels” is based on the issue of bridging the gap between citizens and the European Union in an innovative way. Bringing the EU closer to the citizens is one of the biggest challenges the EU is facing today. That will be carried out through creation of “e-panels” that will include citizens from different ages, nationalities and backgrounds. Throughout the project, various local, transnational and international and online activities will be organized.

Objectives:

· to encourage the participation of European citizens in the construction of Europe and in the debate about the further integration of Europe

· to enhance the relation between European citizens and EU institutions

· to promote a “two-way process” (information and feedback) between EU Institutions and citizens

· to encourage a bottom up approach to allow citizens to express their views

· to develop innovative methods to enhance participation

Activities:

1. First steering committee and launching conference

2. Training of citizens’ panels activators/ partners

3. Set-up of the online platform for debates

4. Day of Europe: Information day on e-Panels

5. Local online workshops

6. Final international conference and last steering committee

7. Final publication ‘E-Panels: fostering citizen participation in the wider Europe’

It is expected through this project at least 20 persons of 6 different countries to be trained, acquiring new information, knowledge and skills in the field of active citizenship and contributing, thanks to their “new” role, to develop citizens’ panels at the local level.
