Platform for development of school volunteering officially kicked off on the 23rd of November 2022, by the partners’ meeting, opening new space for school volunteering development and advocacy.
The purpose of the project is to systematize the long-term practice and efforts of the Local Democracy Agency Sisak and educational institutions in the Sisak-Moslavina County (SMC) for the development of school volunteer clubs through the establishment of the Platform for development of school volunteering, as a place of education, exchange and advocacy towards the decision makers.
Local Democracy Agency Sisak is implementing the project during the 15 months in the Sisak-Moslavina County area, partnering with Vocational School Sisak, Human Right House Zagreb, and Norsensus Mediaforum from Norway.
The partners gathered at the online meeting where the project manager, Paula Raužan, presented the project itself, project activities, and the role of each partner.
The partners agreed on the first steps towards conducting research on good practices and the needs of educational workers and students for practical teaching of the content of civic education. Research results will be the basis for the initiation and operation of the program of Platform for the Development of School Volunteering.
The project aims to create a precondition for the systematic support to schools in SMC by strengthening their capacities for development and implementation of practical and engaging contents on topics such as active citizenship, social justice and social inclusion.
The platform consists of schools in which volunteer clubs exist and those schools that are interested in developing this type of extracurricular activities. The backbone of the work of school volunteer clubs is collaborative (co-creative) work of teachers and students in detecting the needs and problems of the community, finding the best solutions, and implementing concrete actions.
The volunteer club will be developed at the Vocational School Sisak in which the innovative methods and approaches designed through the Platform will be tested.
Teachers participating in the Platform work will be educated on running the school volunteer’ clubs focusing on the social justice topics and will get to know Norwegian good practice on civic education and volunteering in formal educational system.
The project “Platform for the development of school volunteering” is supported with € 87.870,00 financial support from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway within the European Economic Area and Active citizens fund.
