Did you know that volunteer activity can be a fun and exciting event that makes a person feel useful and bring forth a sense of worth? Being part of a team that strives to do good or being part of a change, no matter how small, can be very empowering. But, most people standing outside looking in do not think about all the effort that went into planning an event or a volunteer activity. They do not think about how much time was needed for volunteer organizers to devise a plan and implement an activity or what steps they had to consider before the activity took place.
In order to provide the members of future volunteer club in Sisak Vocational School with the best possible preparation for what awaits them, representatives of the Sisak Local Democracy Agency, Paula Raužan and Monika Selimović, on February 21, 23, and 24, 2023, held an Education on designing and implementing school volunteering programs.
Education is the basis for establishing a school volunteer club, and its goal was to familiarize participants with key terms related to volunteering and volunteer management methodology. Through theoretical and practical tasks, the participants had the opportunity to learn the basic steps needed for opening a school volunteer club and the design of sustainable volunteer activities.
What is unique about the future volunteer club in Sisak Vocational School is that their volunteer activities will be a space for educating and raising awareness among young people and the local community about topics related to social justice, active citizenship, and social inclusion of vulnerable groups.
After the education, activity that follows is to conduct a needs analysis research that will serve as a basis for creating the school’s volunteer program. Members of the volunteer club will use the school’s volunteer program to plan their volunteer activities.
