Local Democracy Agency Sisak has implemented during 2004 a project “Local Economic Development”in which framework was done need assessment and strategic matrix for Sisak-Moslavina County. Considering assessed situation and a fact that LDA Sisak is strongly supporting women project, this project was design in order to foster employment of women and ethno tourism in Hrvatska Dubica. Since 1998 LDA Sisak is cooperating with Dubica Women Association (DUZ) in projects aiming women’s participation and employment. This fruitful cooperation continues in this project as well.
Project aims:
o To contribute to local economical development of Hrvatska Dubica
o Employment of women, in particular over 40 years old
o Fostering sustainable ethno tourism
Hrvatska Dubica has good resources for developing rural and ethno tourism due to its untouched nature, river Una and traditional way of living. There is a lot of unemployment women who have knowledge and skills ofdifferent handicrafts, but currently there is no place where they could sell them, neither the other souvenirs (painted bottles with homemade traditional products such as honey and brandy).
Moreover, Municipality of Hrvatska Dubica strongly supports the project and they gave an old traditional house for use in which the memorabilia will be set in.
During the implementation of the project, part of the house will be reconstructed and memorabilia will be established. The handicrafts and the souvenirs will be selling in the memorabilia. The Ethno House will function as a resource centre for ethno tourism in Hrvatska Dubica and will be a starting point for future economical developing of the area.
Beside that LDA Sisak will organize business and strategic trainings for the women, educational glass painting workshop and will conduct monitoring and consulting through all the fazes of the project.
Project is financed by French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Association of the Local Democracy Agencies, and first faze of the project will be done by the end of the summer 2007.
