On Thursday, 21 February 2008, Mayor of the City of Sisak, Mr. Dinko Pintarić, signed sub-grantee contracts for implementation of the PEARL.EU project financed by the European Commission. Besides representatives of the City administration, Office manager of the Local Democracy Agency Sisak, Ms. Kristina Ferenac, attended the event as well.
PEARL.EU is an abbreviation for “Platform Enhancing Adriatic Regions Links in Europe”, the project founded in the framework of Adriatic New Neighborhood Programme INTERREG/CARDS-PHARE.
Project’s aims:
- strengthening institutional cooperation among local authorities of the Adriatic basin by setting permanent working bodies composed of Italian and East Adriatic local authorities and Local Democracy Agencies in order to implement concrete activities of the European territorial cooperation
- exchange of experiences and best practices among project partners
- networking of the Adriatic Basin partners
- improvement of the local authorities throughout civil society active participation
Moreover, the project has for aim overcoming legal, administrative, language and cultural barriers same as improving information flow by frequent information exchange among project partners.
Project partners: Italy (Municipality of Bari, Province of Bari, Province of Brindisi, Municipality of Gorizia, Municipality of Lecce, Municipality of Ravenna, Municipality of Tavagnacco, Municipality of Udine, Municipality of Venice, Municipality of Trieste, Municipality of Monfalcone, Puglia Region and Association of the Local Democracy Agencies), Bosnia and Herzegovina (Municipalities Prijedor, Mostar, Zavidovići, LDAs Mostar, Prijedor, Zavidovići), Montenegro (LDA Nikšić) and Croatia (Municipalities Sisak, Verteneglio, Osijak-Baranja County and LDAs Sisak, Osijek and Verteneglio
The City of Sisak decided to participate in the Adriatic New Neighbourhood Programme INTERREG/CARDS-PHARE at the beginning of the 2006 and accepted the role of the lead partner for Croatia of the PEARL.EU project. Department for Social Affairs is responsible for coordination of the project.
The City received 411.000 HRK grant for the project that started on 23 November 2007 by signing of the contract with the Ministry of Finances and the European Commission. Project duration is 8 months.
