Volunteer clubs of the Gymnasium Sisak and High school Ivan Trnski from Hrvatska
Kostajnica implement activities dedicated to sustainable development topics so online Study
visit to Recycled Estate Vukomerić on 5 May 2021, was an opportunity to upgrade their
knowledge on environmental topics within the suistanable development concept.
Students, teachers and the team of the project Follow my Steps! – Youth for a
Sustainable Community, got to know sustainable development in practical, everyday use
and learned diverse ways on which an individuals can contribute to nature protection and
more equal societal relations.
Mr Matko Šišak, the Estate manager, presented their Green Network of Activist Groups
(ZMAG) that over 20 years works on practical education on environmental protection and
citizens’ awareness rising on sustainable development. We visited the Estate through photos,
practical examples and got to know the idea of the natural building and sustainable living.
Our host presented several examples of their work with schools that might be motivating for
our students in planning future activities of their volunteer’ clubs. Moreover, at the ZMAG web site there are books, educational brochures, researches and manuals on agroecology, good
economy, natural building and education for sustainable development, available for free
downloading.
The project “Follow My Steps! – Youth for a Sustainable Community” is co-financed by the
Office for NGOs of the Government of the Republic of Croatia through the Swiss-Croatian
Cooperation Program. The project is led by the Local Democracy Agency Sisak in
partnership with the Sisak Gymnasium, the High School Ivan Trnski Hrvatska Kostajnica and
the Sisak-Moslavina County. The aim of the project is to contribute to the promotion of
partnership between civil society organisations and educational institutions in the field of
volunteering, contributing to social and economic cohesion and sustainable development in the Sisak-Moslavina County.
