On the occasion of World Refugee Day on June 20, 2023, in collaboration with the City of Sisak, we ceremoniously opened a corner for migrant literature at the Vlado Gotovac City Library in Sisak. As part of this initiative, we generously donated one hundred books to the library.
The migrant library corner features an extensive collection of one hundred books in Ukrainian, Arabic, Persian, and Turkish languages. These books are intended for both children and adults and are available not only to the migrant community in Sisak but also to all citizens. The event was enhanced by the participation of migrants who shared the beauty of their native languages by reciting poetry, thereby showcasing the rich culture and literature of their homelands.
With this initiative, we aim to contribute to the creation of a more inclusive society that embraces diversity and expresses solidarity towards immigrants who have found their home and refuge in our city.
The opening of the migrant library corner marks the culmination of literary evenings dedicated to the literature written in the native languages of immigrants, migrants who have permanently or temporarily found their home in Sisak, which were held throughout May as part of the Inclusive Sisak project.
