Elementary school Budasevo-Toplovac-Gušće, nearby Sisak, hosted on the 2 October 2020, the LDA Sisak staff who conducted educational workshop on volunteering for the 5th grade pupils. Interactive methods provided educational moments but creative ones as well, since the pupils designed future volunteer actions they will implement within their school by the end of this year.
Using the example of the LDA Sisak program Volunteer Centre Sisak, the pupils get to know basics of the volunteering, its values and benefits and coloration between active citizenship and volunteering. Pupils made posters imaging ideal volunteer and their perspective of volunteering. During joint debate, they decided to implement two volunteer actions, one during which they will fix up the school exterior and the second during which they will remove graffiti from the school façade.
The workshop was graded very high, especially poster making and team work. The pupils said they learn many new things, for example:
“who are volunteers”, “we need to help others and to good deeds”, “lot on cleaning environment”, “it is fun to volunteer”, “blood donating is not volunteering”, “why is good to volunteer”, “how to volunteer”, “everybody can be volunteer”, “you don’t get paid for volunteering”, “all about communities”.
LDA Sisak staff and the school’ teachers and pedagogics will continue to provide educational and informative support to the pupils, members of the school’ volunteer’ club, in implementation of their volunteer actions and in strengthening youth voluntary activities.
The workshop is a part of the projects Sisak Volunteer’ Network and Volunteer Centre Sisak, co-funded by the Croatian Ministry of Labour, Pension System, Family and Social Policy and the City of Sisak.
