On 14, 16 and 17 October 2019, within the project “Follow My Step! – Youth for a Sustainable Community” lead by the Local Democracy Agency Sisak, training was organized for representatives of partner schools on the make and implementation of school volunteering programs.
The training was carried out on the basis of a training for trainers on practical work with young people in the field of sustainable development, which will enable the involved schools to independently make, implement and monitor the implementation of school volunteering programs with a focus on 17 sustainable development goals, which are the backbone of the project. The training was attended by 15 representatives of partner organizations, including students and teachers of partner schools, Sisak Gymnasium High School and High School Ivan Trnski Hrvatska Kostajnica, and representatives of Sisak – Moslavina County and Local Democracy Agency Sisak.
The education was led by Paula Raužan, and the participants gained new knowledge about the legal framework of volunteering and the whole cycle of volunteer management and, through practical work, prepared volunteer programs for their schools, which will help them in their further work for the purpose of preparing school volunteering programs and establishing and operating school volunteer clubs.
Students and their teachers set up working groups to make a volunteer program with the support of volunteer coordinators after conducting needs analysis and focus groups with students in their schools to examine the school needs for types of volunteer programs. The volunteer program will be developed in accordance with the recommendations of the needs analysis and will be included in the school curriculum of each school. An interactive workshop called “Being a Volunteer” will be organized for 80 students from these two schools through which they will be prepared to participate in the work of the school volunteer clubs.
